Hitting Fallacies - Get Your Back Elbow Up!

Improper hitting instructions can prove to be quite detrimental for a promising athletic career. Now-a-days, there are certain myths about hitting styles and swing mechanics.

Today, wrong information is being taught to the players. This information can not only destroy a player's chance to have more fun or get more hits but can also reduce his chances of getting a college scholarship.

The most common hitting fallacy is that the hitters should get their elbow up! Well, in my point of view, this is the worst advice a coach can give a hitter!

What the coaches want is that their players should get on top of the ball and hit line drives. But, the fact is that the back elbow should come close to the rib cage during the swing. Also, the barrel of the bat should stay above the hands.

Actually, the elbow has to travel a much greater distance and at a much faster rate of speed. So, if you follow this hitting fallacy, you will get into a habit. This is because every time you get your back elbow up, you will be able to create a long swing.

When the kids put their elbow up, they fail to relax the back elbow just before they start their swing. If the same continues, the back elbow puts the top hand in a weak position and thus, creates a long swing.

Following are some long term effects of following this hitting fallacy:

You will develop a long swing.

You will not be able to adjust to different types of pitches.

It will become difficult for you to get the bat around even on an average fastball.

Your batting average will decrease.

You will never be able to adjust to a curveball.
