Major Changes to College Baseball
There has been some major changes to college baseball that just could have long lasting effects. As college baseball has been seen as a non income producing sport amongst other college sports it is obvious that they have come to realize that they will continue to cut the sports marketability. The other big factors that are affecting the sport is the restrictions that Title IX has put on it. Title IX is the equality regulations on all sports that is handed down by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
So, here are three of the major rule changes that will be facing College Baseball. Athletes will not be able to transfer between schools without sitting out one season. This actually was deemed a perk that only baseball had but it was for good reason. There are numerous transfers in baseball and a number of ballplayers leave to go to the big leagues so this was never that big an issue and now it's gone. Football and basketball players already have that rule in place. The move should discourage power programs from stockpiling talent, then cutting players who don"t fit in.
Roster sizes will be limited to 35. Currently, many of the best programs have rosters of more than 40 players. Capping them will force some prospects to look at lesser-name schools for playing time.
Under the 33 percent rule, 27 scholarships must be awarded at 33 percent, adding up to nine total scholarships. The remaining 2.7 scholarships could then be given at a rate higher than 33 percent but not lower. As an extreme example, a team could give 27 players the 33 percent aid. Then give two players 100 percent and one player 70 percent.
