Manny
On July 19th, the Boston Globe wrote an article titled "Getting it right in left?" stating that Manny Ramirez is making left field look difficult because he is playing too shallow, allowing too many doubles that haven't hit the wall, blah, blah, blah. Don't the people at the Globe have better things to write about now that the Red Sox have given up some ground to the Yankees in the AL East Standings?
Its so typical of the Globe, and everyone else in Boston, to just start panicking when the team faces a little adversity. Lets get a few things straight, the Sox are still 7 games up in the East, and Manny playing five feet 'too shallow' ISN'T THE REASON WE ARE LOSING GAMES! Then everyone gets on Manny's case every time he asks for a trade?!? This is an absolutely ludicrous complaint. Manny's been playing shallow ever since he came to Boston.
He's amassed 53 outfield assists since 2001, 7 of which have come this year. I would be willing to bet Manny has taken away more doubles this year then hes allowed bounce over his head. Maybe the Globe should focus on the fact that Julian Tavarez looks like at times he couldn't even pitch in a beer league softball game, let alone the big leagues. Maybe they should focus on the fact that JD Drew is having his worst career season, after signing a $70 million contract?
Or if nothing else, why not write an article entitled "Manny Ramirez: Diary of a Scapegoat" because every year no matter what goes wrong, its time to blame it on Manny. The Globe can write whatever they want to write, but to get the record straight: none of this, is Manny's fault.
