Spurs Tim Duncan Hopes To Be Treated Fairly After Referee s Suspension

Spurs star Tim Duncan hopes that he and his team are treated fairly by the NBA officials after the suspension of NBA referee Joey Crawford.

Crawford has worked more postseason games than any other active referee and he was suspended indefinitely by NBA commissioner David Stern for his conduct towards Duncan during a recent game. Crawford"s suspension is bound to last at least till the NBA finals get over.

Duncan said that he did nothing to get the reaction that he received from Crawford and so he believes that he had nothing to do with it. He hopes that NBA officials will take that into account and the Spurs get treated fairly.

Crawford ejected Duncan from the game that the Spurs were playing against Dallas after giving him a second technical foul while Duncan sat on the bench laughing.

Duncan said that Crawford looked and him and asked him whether he wanted to fight. He further added that he did not have any clue as to why Crawford would ask him that in the middle of the game. Duncan said that he has no problem if Crawford wants to fight with him. He ready for it.

Crawford was suspended on account of improper conduct and inappropriate comments made to Duncan during the game. Commissioner Stern said that Crawford had failed to meet the standards of professionalism and game management expected from NBA referees.

Commissioner Stern further added that Crawford had had similar prior actions and that is why he was being suspended. Though, commissioner Stern acknowledged that Crawford was consistently rated as one of NBA"s top referees. The NBA is set to discuss the matter further with Crawford after the season.

Duncan was fined $25,000 by the NBA for verbally abusing an NBA official. Crawford said that Duncan used an expletive to refer to him. Duncan felt that his reaction was quite mild considering the incident but he understood why the fine was imposed on him.
