How To Collect Basketball Cards
Card collecting is a fun and creative way to follow the sport you love. When you collect cards, you can own cards of your favorite players, teams, and much more. Sports cards have developed from a simple hobby into a business. People collect cards for either the enjoyment or the money. Simple investments can bring profits while bad breaks can be expensive. For whatever reason, card collecting is fun if you know what to do.
When collecting you have to keep several things in mind:
1) Know who you are as a collector: Are you collecting cards because you want to make a little money, is it a part time hobby, these are just a few questions to ask yourself when you collect. If you collect within what you want, you can make it more enjoyable.
2) Base cards: Base cards are the regular cards that make up a set, that can be 100 players. These cards are not worth much because you are usually going to get a few in every pack. It can be nice to collect base cards of your favorite team or player. Some people try to collect every card in the set.
3) Rookie Cards: Rookie cards are the first year cards of sports players. When you collect cards, you may find a rookie card once in a while because they have some worth because they are harder to get and people always want first year cards.
4) Inserts: Insert cards are very different because you can tell right away. Insert cards are special cards that are not usually found and have a set name to it, like Hot Shooters. They have a set name and can be identified on the back of the card.
5) Parallel cards: Parallel cards are variations of base cards, inserts and more that you find. They can be called gold refractors and more because they are rarer and harder to get. These are usually made for most cards because it makes it more interesting.
6) Game used cards: These cards are harder to get than others because they have some worth. These cards have a piece of the game on them, from a small piece of a player's jersey, to a piece of the game ball. They have dropped in value because of the amount of game used cards they make now.
7) Autographes: These cards are usually harder to find than game used cards and usually have more value. These cards have been signed by a player who has sent the card back to the card company.
8) Mixed version: Some cards have various variations, some include multiple jerseys, autographes and mutliple players. These cards are usually quite rarer and worth more.
9) Star veterans: These players have more value because of the fan following that produce. Many people collect cards of say, Lebron James because of his ability to play good basketball. Just like star rookies, there cards are usually worth more.
10) 1/1 cards: These cards are the rarest because only one card of that kind has been produced.
