Many of the players today come from many part of the world. They understand that by playing in the NBA, they put themselves in a high elite group of athletes with a common goal. In the past, there are many more American players because the sport was not fully developed in other parts of the world. Even if they were, people were not worried about making the NBA and playing for the organization. It is only now that people have got on in the chase for greatness. Now many kids growing up are able to view the stars they love, because of the vast media options. In the past, there wasn"t internet and radio but now technology is even stronger. It is so easy to connect that everyone does it if they can. Now that NBA teams have seen the talent in other countries, they are not as hesitant in picking foreign ball players. Some feel that there are better players overseas. With basketball growing as a popular sport, more people are playing. It is something that everyone can do, no matter how skilled or experienced they may be.
Now that several key foreign players, in fact, many have succeeded in the NBA, kids find more inspiration. They find inspiration because someone they could relate too has done the unthinkable. They feel that these people are national heroes, there are many fans of Yao Ming, and has really improved the following in China. Before Yao, there wasn"t a good Chinese player and people knew that. Now that he has done it on the biggest stage, he is the center focus of every Chinese person who follows.
This can be said for other players, such as Pau Gasol, who has increased following in his native country, Spain. Many players overseas play because they have proven that they can in their own respective leagues. Manu of the Spurs is a fan favorite in Argentina. David Stern, the commissioner of the NBA has expressed his wishes to improve the NBA global picture. With a whole world following intensely, the NBA will be a bigger stage.
