The Overblown NBA Fact Sheet
Today, math controls many facets of how we view the NBA. We look at average, totals, percents, fractions, categories, years, teams and much more. When we look at the box score, we are also looking at many math related data. The reason for this is because everyone needs to measure how something is done. In society, there is always a measurement for things that people can do. There is always a craving by certain people to do things well, even things that have low importance. We measure things because we have dreams of achieving success, the way others do. The NBA uses math to show how productive players, teams and more are. It offers an easy way to look at things.
When we look at how a player performs, we look at how many points, etc, that they have. This compares them to other players of similar age and position. However, even game totals, and television ratings are measured for our knowledge. When watching the NBA finals, did you get annoyed at some point? Everything that was said was a basis of some mathematical statement, making the game like a math class. People look too deep into things and should just enjoy the game. They also hype and make things longer than they should in an effort to make the most money. The same goes for, why are all game on during prime time? Everything relates to math in basketball, because math defines the possibilities of math.
However, math should be used because it shows how everything works. It becomes so clear as to how things are working, from a run to a point difference. It offers analysis as to what is done wrong and what is done right. We cannot hate the fact that the NBA is a math machine. We have to love this fact because it makes the game so easy. Just like any other sport, math helps you understand how things work, keeping everything organized. Math relates to how basketball is played, from angles of the ball to shooting heights. Math goes so far in basketball because of its importance in the world.
