Is the USA Struggling?
After several hard years, in which the teams have left without the coveted gold medal, hope needs to be refueled. The National USA Men"s team had always dominated the world in basketball because they simply had the best players on their team. Players like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Scottie Pippen have played for various Dream teams. The scores were usually in the huge favor for the USA until the last few games which the USA would still win comfortably. Now it seems as if the world has awakened from a dream. It seems that the people have used the past defeats that their own respective countries underwent in order to win. They have all found a drive to succeed because of the players they see today. Basketball is now a global sport which is really wasn"t back then. Now every kid growing up may want to be a player.
Ultimately, this shows that we have been narrow minded. Teams from other countries will not just sit back and let themselves be run over. It appears as if each country is capable of producing players that are as good as the NBA stars were have learned to love. Many of the foreign players may choose not to play in the NBA and for their own National team. In order to really prove that we are the best in the world, we have to do what we know, play hard. The people on the USA team are not the absolute best players in the NBA. Many of these players choose not to play for various and unknown reasons. This means that the Dream team is not at its full strength. Players such as Kobe and Kevin Garnett should be helping the team. In order to fill the gap, players there are not absolutely the best are on the team. We also have to learn to play different styles. If we have to play a more fundamentally sound game, we will have to learn how to adapt. One thing that is really hurting American players is that they are flashy and do not understand the international rules. Things are done a little differently resulting in a period of adjustment. Hopefully the Dream team can show that they are really the best this time.
The NBA selects players from all over the world, but they do not have the best players. The only people that play on the team, are Americans. This does not help the NBA, as some foreign players such as Yao Ming could have been playing for the team. In order to prove that we are the best, we have to make the needed obligations and preparation from the elite players we produce.
