Exceeding the Hype
Lebron James was one of the most hyped players in NBA history. He was already on the front page of a major sports magazine his junior year and was dominant in inter league play. Lebron held many strengths in his game, such as the ability to pass which wowed people and fans alike. It was wondered where teams were tanking on purpose to have better chance to get him. Lebron won every high school player of the year award his final year in high school and seemed destined for greatness. Newspapers from all parts of the world were eager to see how he would pan out.
Many people also had doubts about whether he would be as good as advertised. They felt that many high school players were just not ready to play the game. They lacked the experience and could do with a few years in college basketball. After all, most of the NBA is about development. In his first game against the Kings, Lebron scored 25 points, breaking the previous record by 15 points. After that game, people were sure that he could play. However, the team was losing most of the games and Lebron was lost at times. Could he, the best player in the draft save a cursed team?
Lebron went on the win rookie of the year, went on the receive the second most votes in All-star history, win a bronze medal, and much more. He was also the owner of many high light reels, many high performance games and was also a record breaker. Lebron was good but was his team good? He also lacked a mental toughness and was weak on defense. To make matters worse, they have lost their first playoff run against the Pistons.
Lebron was known for playing better each year, after having averaged 31 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds. He was also known for improving his game over the summer. However, during the year, he struggled, his numbers were lower than usual and his team wasn"t doing so great. However, a late run put them at number two for the eastern conference. He would put on one of the greatest shows, scoring the last 29 points against the Pistons in game 5. They went on the lose but Lebron has shown that he was able to take over. He also showed others that he was able to play defense and win ball games. There is no hype left unfullfilled.
