Artest To The Knicks - Disaster Or Match Made In Heaven
If style, grace, and a winning smile can"t take you where you want to go then I guess you haven"t been following the Isiah Thomas game plan. Isiah, equipped with such grace on the court, off the court can be depicted as somewhat of a "thug," a ruthless businessman who never deters from his goal. After his Hall of Fame career as a player Isiah decided to dabble on the other side of the court and so far he"s been doing a good job...from a financial standpoint anyway.
Although he is not the best GM in the league and has the Knicks salary almost double the second highest payroll of any other team, he does know talent. And if he says Artest is a player that is going to take the Knicks to the next level, honestly I"d like to believe him. In this situation, unlike the gamble he made early this summer when acquiring the often-in trouble Zack Randolph, he already knows Artest and has already coached him. There is a comfort level with one another and Isiah is a hell of a therapist. If you noticed, Artest wasn"t acting up quite so much when Isiah was steering the franchise in Indiana.
But Isiah knows what he knows and is going to teach what he knows. If Isiah knows that Artest, a New York born, NBA player, is going to take the Knicks to the next level then I think we should listen. Because if we don"t James Dolan might start making decisions on his own and the only people who benefit from that are bars, alcohol companies, and every other franchise in the league aside from the Timberwolves, of course.
The optimistic approach is that Artest talents will take the Knicks to the promise land. He"s a good scorer, at almost 19 points a game last year and a great defender who can guard pretty much any position. He does average two turnovers a game but makes up for that by averaging two steals a game and when his offense is on, he is probably a top-2-player in his position.
The pessimistic approach would be that Isiah, although a players coach, just can"t handle that many egos in one club house. With two newly acquired "Bad Boys" a.k.a. Zack and Ron, these new look Knicks would have a lot of talent, a lot of fire and a lot of rage but would they be able to hold on long enough to make it to the promise land or would they eventually, like a ticking time bomb, blow up in everyone"s face?
