Air Up There And or How to Increase Vertical Jump

Since the term "dunk" was born in 1936 millions of basketball players tried to add this "move" to their repertoire or at least to learn it. Back then the New York Times journalist Arthur Daley watched some basketball players of the McPherson Oilers bringing the ball above the basket and throwing it through the rim. He compared this motion with dunking a cookie in your coffee and the most popular move in basketball was born. Since then there has been an incredible evolution of the "move" called dunk. Julius Erving, Michael Jordan, Vince Carter - they all took the dunk to the next level. Last year TJ Fontenette, aka The Air Up There from the streetball crew called AND1 became the first man to complete a 720-degree dunk - that"s two complete rotations in the air!

The Rise of Lebron James - Eerily Like that of Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan is touted as one of the best players, if not the best, in NBA history. After playing a few years in North Carolina, where his Tar Heels were victorious over Patrick Ewing's Georgetwon Hoyas in the NCAA Tournament Final Game, Jordan decided to make the jump into the NBA - the operative word being jump. During his first few years, as other young players struggled, Jordan quickly proved he was a force to be reckoned with. With his insane athleticism and poised demeanor under pressure, he built a name for himself - Superman Fast forward 20 years to the present. Now, it is Lebron's turn. Instead of playing college ball, Lebron James went straight from high school into the NBA.

Improve Vertical Jump Distance - Secrets To Give You Inches

A high vertical jump is a great asset for a sportsman and highly valued, especially in basketball but also in football, baseball and other sports. Against what your friends might say, you can improve vertical jump distance and you are not simply born with a predestined hangtime! One secret to improve vertical jump distance is to invest in new footwear. I don't particularly recommend this method because springy or special shoes improve your game only a couple of inches at best -- plus your muscles do not grow with your new maximum reach so your joints will take a pounding. To jump higher, you need all over body conditioning. To improve vertical jump distance, concentrate on the muscles of the legs but do not neglect the rest of the body -- the arms and the core of the body will give you a quarter of your gains at least.

Lakers Will Have To Handle Leandro Barbosa Again

Ever since Leandro Barbosa, also known as the Brazilian Blur, came of age in game 6 of the Los Angeles Lakers first round playoff series against Phoenix a year ago, the Lakers and Barbosa know that his game and confidence level have risen tremendously. Barbosa is the fastest Suns players and he is in fact one of the leading candidates to receive the NBA"s sixth man award. This year again the Lakers and Suns will have re-match series and there is no doubt Barbosa will have a major role to play. Barbosa said that he is capable of bringing speed to the team and that is what the Suns" coach wants the team to do because the Lakers will try to slow the pace of the game to what they like and the Suns cannot allow that to happen.

Danny Ainge Prefers To Remain Silent About Greg Oden

After Ohio State star Greg Oden announced that he would be entering the NBA draft, Danny Ainge, Celtics" executive director of basketball operations, preferred to stay quiet about it. Ainge has already been fined $30, 000 by the NBA for making contact with a potential draft choice. This time Ainge said that he was not willing to comment on anything because it was not yet official. The Celtics finished with the second worst record in the NBA and this would give them a very good chance of either selecting Greg Oden or Kevin Durant of Texas during the draft. Both Oden and Durant have already announced that they will be going pro but Ainge is not ready to comment till May 3, 2007, the date when the NBA will confirm that both Oden and Durant have filed their paper for the draft.

Miami Heat Expect Chicago Bulls To Get Rough With Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade is from Chicago and he is loved in his hometown. However, the Chicago Bulls rarely show affection towards him. Two years ago after a play, Bulls forward Andres Nocioni pushed Wade in the back and Wade fell. Last year again Nocioni delivered hard hits on Wade during Miami-Chicago series which the Heat won by six games. While this season Kirk Hinrich pulled so hard on Wade"s arm, he ended up spraining his wrist. When the Heat and the Bulls open an Eastern Conference first round rematch in Chicago, Miami expect Chicago to be a lot more rough with Wade. Heat center Shaquille O"Neal expressed his concern. He said that knowing Scott Skiles, Bulls" coach, he would expect him to be shouting out to his players to foul Wade and to foul him hard.

Cavs Win?

I can't believe it! I watched the entire season and play offs and I still can't believe it and I can't believe I missed it. I wrote a few weeks ago about the dreaded Cleveland Curse wondering if it ever would be lifted. Well is Cleveland four games away from a championship? I waited how long to see this moment - YEARS! The first two games against Detroit were typical Cleveland heart breaking loses, a last second missed shot and baaad calls by the officials. But things started going in our favor but (another but) I still wasn't sold. Then came game six. The crowd was energized, the place rocking, the early shots were falling and then it happened - The Curse reared its ugly head once again.

Kobe Bryant Demands Lakers Be Traded to Eastern Conference

Saying that he isn"t saying he is demanding it, and isn"t saying he isn"t demanding it, and possibly has been misquoted on what he didn"t say but possibly meant, Kobe Bryant today demanded that the entire Los Angeles Lakers team be traded to the Eastern Conference. "It"s like this. You know how you look under your bed every now and then to see who"s there? Well, maybe you don"t, but I do. Anyway, you find these dust bunnies. They didn"t bother you in the first place, and they don"t bother you much when you find them, and you don"t feel better or worse when they"re gone. That"s the Milwaukee Bucks. They"re the dust bunnies of the Eastern Conference. Nobody will miss them when we swap conferences.
