Why You Need to Try an Extreme Sport

I used to be more or less a slug. I only exercised to prevent weight gain, and nothing was more boring than a few miles on the treadmill. It did not take much for me to find a reason not to get to the gym on a regular basis and then I would berate myself. About five years ago I met my current girlfriend, and her love of mountain biking was as infectious as her laugh. I wound up going one step further to extreme mountain biking and now I go almost every weekend. I have been so much happier since taking up this great sport.

If you are a risk taker, adventure sports might just be for you. There are many different kinds of adventure sports, and the list gets longer all the time. Another great thing is these groups can become like an extended family. When people share love of a particular sport and feel the same need for that adrenaline rush...it is almost like an extra jolt of excitement to see a good friend having as much fun as you are.

It turned out that mountain biking kind of picked me, and I realize it may be hard to decide what to try at first. Go online and type in 'extreme sports'. Most people are able to start narrowing their choices due to their geography, or automatically feel pulled toward water sports, or know they want to be in the mountains. There are also sports reviews, you can read what experts think, and you can see how much equipment costs. Magazines are another great source and once again the internet can help. Type in 'online magazines'.

There are a few other ways. Ask your friends what they would consider trying and go for it as buddies. There are also sport groups that take trips together (like ski clubs); you could go along, watch them in person, and get to know some of them (if you think they might think it's strange say you are healing from a fracture). Or you could attend a sporting event by yourself and remain a total spectator.

I highly recommend that unless you are positive you would not enjoy stepping out of the box that you try something. Maybe begin by renting a mountain bike or a kayak. Anyone at almost any age can find something to do that will give them a healthy, legal adrenaline rush, and I hope you find yours.
