Fixing Waders

Have you ever had the pleasure of having a leak in your waders? You're standing there in the flowing water of your favorite river or stream, and suddenly you start to fell something on your leg. At this point you begin to wonder if the moisture you feel on your leg is sweat or leaking waders. You ignore it, and keep fishing, because after all it's not like the water is gushing onto your waders like it would with puncture or tear. Not only that, but you think that if your ignore it, maybe it will go away. When you get done fishing you take your waders off only to realize that your socks are literally sopping wet.

At this point, you have to face the facts. You've got pinhole leaks in you waders. This exact scenario happened to me, and went on for the better part of an entire fishing season. I would try to fix the leaks, but because they we're literally pin hole leaks, and I could never get them all fixed. The waders that I'm referring to had to be replaced, they were honestly un-fixable. I learned afterwards that this entire problem occurred for one simple reason: I didn't store my waders properly. Waders need to be stored upside down when they aren't being used, and if your waders are breathable waders (as mine were) they need to be stored inside out and upside down.

Proper storage of waders is integral to them lasting as long as they should. If punctures or tears happen to your waders, you have two options. First, most new waders come with a repair kit to fix normal punctures and tears. I suggest carrying this with you in your fishing vest. These repair kits will enable you to fix most punctures and tears that occur while fishing. The second option for repairing punctures and tears is a product called Aquaseal. Aquaseal comes on a small tube and you simply spread it over the area that needs repaired and let it dry. Aquaseal is a real time saver for fixing punctures and tears in waders. Keep these things in mind, and fixing your waders will be a breeze.
