Live Worm Tips
Many anglers seem to enjoy using live worms as bait, but don't understand some very simple and effective tips that will enable them to catch more fish. These live worm tips are simple yet effective, and will enable most anyone to have more success while fishing. Fishing with live worms isn't complicated, but it isn't as simple as just "threading" a worm onto a hook either. Not if you want to have true success that is. Keep these live worm tips in mind and you'll have more success.
- Natural Presentation - When fishing with live worms, presenting them in a natural manner is key. Let me ask you a question, if you "thread" a worm onto a hook or hook it over and over again, how natural does it look? That is, how much does the worm look like it would in nature when presented in either of the two manner listed above? The answer is...not very much. The only way to present a live worm naturally is to use a set of gang hooks. A set of gang hooks is simply a pair of small hooks tied in tandem that enable you to present a live worm outstretched, the way God intended it to look. If you fish with live worms, gang hooks should be employed.
- Bottom Is Your Friend - The best way to use live worms as bait is to bounce a naturally presented live worm off of the bottom, while it flows naturally through a river or stream. This tip works for most any fish that swims in rivers and/or streams such as: trout, smallmouth bass, walleye, and whitefish. When fishing with live worms, bottom is your friend.
- Be Efficient - For those of us who move around a lot while fishing, having an efficient way to carry live worms is important. For example, I wade up and down tmy favorite trout river, fishing the entire time and having an efficient way to carry my worms saves me a ton of time. Rather than carrying the container I purchase live worms in with me all day, I employ a bait bag to carry my worms. This way my worms are always literally at my fingertips waiting to be used. I don't have to rifle through my fishing vest, looking for my worm container. If you fish with live worms and move around at all, a bait bag should be employed. If you don't move around much, don't worry about it.
