The Secret To Fishing A Live Worm
More than fifteen years ago I was taught the secret to fishing with a live worm, and in this article, I'm going to pass that secret along to you. The secret itself is really quite simple. The secret is that when you fish with a live worm, said worm needs to be presented in the most natural way possible. Think of it this way. If you grab a worm in your hands and throw it into the water, what does it look like? This is what you want the worm that you're using as bait to look like. Most anglers don't know how to accomplish this, so they attempt to "thread" their worm onto a hook in an attempt to make it look natural. The problem with this technique is that their offering ends up looking more like a worm ball than anything else.
The only way to truly present a live worm in the most natural way possible is to employ a set of gang hooks. What's a set of gang hooks, you ask? A set of gang hooks is simply two small hooks tied in tandem, thus enabling a live worm to be presented outstretched, the way God intended. With a set of gang hooks, live worms can be presented in a completely natural manner, which is the secret to fishing a live worm.
My fishing mentor was the first person that I ever saw using pre-tied gang hooks, more than fifteen years ago, and I've personally been using them ever since. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't even consider fishing with a live worms in any other manner. Once you begin using gang hooks it makes so much sense, that using a single hook to fish with worms seems crazy. Not to mention the fact that gang hooks are so much more productive it's not funny.
You can purchase gang hooks ready to fish or you can tie them yourself, it makes little difference. What's important is that you begin using gang hooks sooner, rather than later. Another great worm fishing secret is to use a Bait Bag to carry your worms while fishing. This way your worms are always "at your fingertips" waiting to be used.
The bottom line is that the secret to fishing a live worms isn't at all difficult, it's just a little different than you may be used to. Gang Hooks may be something that you never considered before, but you should. Always have 5 to 10 sets of pre-tied gang hooks available whenever you're fishing with a live worm. This way you'll never have to see another worm ball in your life.
