Why Do I Need Polarized Glasses?

It's widely accepted that anglers should wear polarized glasses while fishing, but do you know why? In this article I'll try to explain why polarized glasses are needed (without getting overly technical) and also how all polarized glasses aren't created equal. For many years I labored under the delusion that polarized sunglasses were a crock, and not only were they a crock but people who spent more than $25 on them were idiots. Boy was I misguided. Polarized glasses help to reduce the glare created by the sun when it hits the water. With this glare eliminated, it enables you to be able to see into the water. This is a huge advantage to any angler who fishes shallow water in lakes or likes to fish in the flowing water of rivers and streams.

Fishing, Live Worms, And The Worm Ball

It seems to me that many anglers who fish with live worms still do it in exactly the same way that they did when they were kids. That is, tying on a single hook (many times a snelled hook), clipping on a red and white bobber, maybe adding a split shot sinker for a little weight, throwing it into the water, and calling it fishing. Is this because many anglers just don't know any better? It's hard to say for sure, but one thing I do know for sure is that what I just described isn't the best or most effective way to fish with a live worm. Not by a long shot. I'm not a flea flicker by any stretch of the imagination, but 'A river Runs Through It' is my favorite movie, and in that movie the reverend McLain is quoted as saying, "Anyone who does not no how to catch a fish, should not be able to disgrace a fish by catching it.

10 Ways to Cook Bass From Your Fishing Trip

BAKED BASS Split the fish and stuff with seasoned mashed potatoes. Put a little boiling water and a tablespoonful of butter into the baking-pan, and baste frequently while cooking. BAKED BASS WITH WHITE WINE Put a bass into a baking-dish with salt, pepper and mushroom liquor to season, and enough white wine to moisten. Cover with buttered paper and bake for fifteen minutes. Melt two tablespoonfuls of butter, add three tablespoonfuls of flour, and cook thoroughly. Add two cupfuls of white stock and cook until thick, stirring constantly. Take from the fire and add the yolks of three eggs beaten with a little cold water, and the juice of half a lemon. Add a tablespoonful of butter and the juice in the baking-pan.

Fishing for Rainbow Trout - The Perfect Hatch - Part 1 - Chironomids

It happens every year, in almost every lake in the Kamloops area but the trick is to time it just right. This year, so far, our timing has been great. Long leaders on dry lines season has begun and the perfect hatch of chironomids has been fished. It was late in May, just after the Victoria Day weekend in Kamloops area and the weather had been cool and windy but this day the winds were down and the temperature was approaching 20C. It was the perfect set-up. Armaddeus and I ventured up to the Roche Lake area to one of my favorite lakes, Hosli Lake. We hit the water late in the afternoon (4:30)and not much was happening except where 4 boats/float tubes were gathered in deep water off the far shore.

Fishing And Powerbait

Many angler use Powerbait for fishing, especially trout fishing. For this article, I'm going to be specifically referring to the Powerbait that comes in jars or pre-formed chunks, and these types of Power baits are mainly used for catching trout. Powerbait is most effective on stocked trout (you know, the trout that the fish and game department plants in lakes and rivers?) My fishing buddies and I have always joked that the government must feed the trout Powerbait when they are growing up in the hatcheries, because they seem to be addicted to the stuff. The most effective way to use Powerbait is with a bottom rig, which I will explain in this article. The first thing that needs to be understood is that Powerbait floats.

Tricks Of The Trade Belly Flap Teaser

It"s another beautiful day out fishing for Pacific sailfish along the Great Astrolabe barrier reef. You were off at dawn and now your two pink squid daisy chain teasers are skipping along in the wake, your party of anglers waiting patiently around the cockpit with their pitch baits ready for the first sailfish attack. Suddenly a bill pokes out of the sea, right behind the left hand daisy chain and a sailfish has a couple of half hearted swipes at the teaser tail. Deckie Joe swings into action and starts to work the teaser back to the boat as the first angler pitches a bait and skips it back to the billfish... ... .But something is wrong... ... .The sail doesn"t light up and charge after the teaser.

Getting A Line On Fishing Line

Fishing line - it's not all the same you know. Sure one would think that you really only need one type I mean all it has to do is support a hook and help you reel in a fish, right? While this is true, there actually are five different kinds of line that you can use depending on your fishing needs. In addition to that, some lines come in different strengths depending on how heavy you think the fish you will be catching will be. While deciding what kind of line to use may not seem important it actually can make a big difference in how the fish sees your bait and also on the feeling that you get when the fish is on the end of the line. When choosing line for your fishing expedition, you"ll probably be selecting from these basic types - monofilament, co-filament flourocarbon, braided and fused.

How Retractors Help The Average Angler

What, you've never heard of using retractors while fishing? Well you're about to, and I think you'll be glad you did. Retractors are a great addition to any anglers repertoire because of the incredible convenience they offer the average angler. How many of you bite your line after tying knots or when you need to break your line for some reason? Probably most of you. I know I used to. That is until I was introduced to the retractor. You see, with a retractor, you can have a small pair of nail clippers ready for use whenever you need to snip your line. Many retractors come with a clip that enables you to easily add a pair of nail clippers and be good to go.

Carp Fishing - The Best Ingredient For Success

How many anglers take risks by trying to think or do things differently in their fishing. If you are one who does then you are always a step ahead of the majority and your catch results will demonstrate this! It takes courage and self-belief to be innovative and risk failure. But those who try know it is always worthwhile in the end! Fishing is always about learning, constant improvement and change. Nothing ever stays the same. Even on easy waters, the bait or method that caught you fifty fish last year may be susceptible to an more innovative approach or different bait. The impact of other anglers and their innovations can have serious implications on your own catch results if you are "left behind.

Choosing The Ideal Fishing Reel

The fishing reel is a very important piece of fishing gear and just like anything else it comes in many different styles and varieties from a wide array of manufacturers. Like other fishing tackle, fishing reels can be inexpensive or surprisingly expensive. Having a good fishing reel is a key for successful fishing and there are a few types of reels on the market today which makes choosing one a little bit of a challenge. You can narrow this down a bit though by knowing what type of fishing your going to be doing. If you are taking up fly fishing and there are specific reels for that style of fishing but if you will be casting then you want to choose from one of the many spinning reels available.
