Fall - The Other Crappie Season

Some serious crappie catchers claim the fall season on Kentucky and Barkley lakes is just as good as the spring fling. Some say it is better, mainly because they don"t have much competition. But every one of these slab sultans agree that the average size of the fish they catch after the autumnal equinox is larger than during the spring. In my honest estimation, fall crappie fishing is not as good as it is during the spring-but it isn"t far behind. Now is the time to find out where you stand in this debate, because the crappie have moved into the bays, and they"ll be there until the water gets really cold about the end of November. Actually, there are things I like better about fall crappie fishing.

The Two Best Fall Bass Baits

Because people fish in so many different ways and most have a favorite way to fish, picking just two baits from the hundreds is difficult. This is not an article for "experts" or people set in their ways. It"s for the guys and gals who just like to fish and sure would like to go out sometime and catch a whole bunch of fish. The best time to do that is during the fall, especially here on Barkley and Kentucky lakes, as well as on most other lakes on this general latitude. Spring is when most people who don"t fish every weekend think about wetting a line. Being cooped up for most of the winter has a lot to do with that. And spring is a great time to fish because bass and other game species are moving shallow where they become more vulnerable to the average fisherman.

Fishing and Behaving Well

A good etiquette is always a good judgment of a person with great personality. This is as good as saying to any type of person doing any sort of job or hobby with great honesty and passion. I bet anyone who has good experiences with people who easily understands and knows how to give way will agree. As for fly fishing, fishers or anglers would also love a good time while in the water. A good etiquette could come in handy as well. If you"re fishing, you certainly wouldn"t want to be disturbed which is also what many of the anglers believe which they deserves. It"s important to pay attention to the people around you and yourself, whether you are behaving well.

The Best Time Of Year To Catch Trout

If I told you that one time of year was better for catching fish than another, would you believe me? And if you do believe that one time of the year is better than another for catching trout, how many of you think that time of year is the spring? I used to think that the spring was the best time of year to catch trout, but then I got a little more experience under my belt and realized that the spring wasn't at all the best time of year to catch trout. The best time of year to catch trout, not only in numbers but also size, is the fall. As most anglers turn their attention to chasing animals through the woods and birds through the fields, I've figured out that the best time of the year to catch trout is the fall.

3 Essential Worm Fishing Tips

For more than 20 years I've been an avid worm fisherman, and was taught to worm fish by a man I consider to have been the greatest worm angler I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Oh, and I'm not referring to fishing with twenty pound test and some brightly colored piece of rubber either. I'm referring to fishing with live worms, mostly in the flowing waters of either a river or stream. The 3 essential worm fishing tips discussed in this article are what I view as "the top 3" when it comes to worm fishing. These three essential tips will help you out tremendously as far as fishing with live worms is concerned. Many anglers believe that grabbing a container of worms, threading one of those worms onto a hook, and chunking it out into the water is "worm fishing".

The Weather And Fishing

What if I told you that doing one simple thing could dramatically increase the amount of fish you catch, and this one simple thing wouldn't cost you one red cent? Would you believe me or think that I was full of more crap than a politician running for the presidency? Well, in any case it's true, there is one simple thing that you can do to help you catch more fish and it won't cost you one red cent! That one thing is to learn a little about how the weather and fishing are related. These two subjects, the weather and fishing are much more related than you might have ever thought. As a matter of fact, there are few subjects that effect fishing as much as the weather.

The Overrated Imortance Of Color For Bass Lures

The longer I fish the more I"m convinced color is our least important consideration. Long-time Barkley and Kentucky lakes guide, Malcolm Lane, and I discuss this often. I guided for years, but Malcolm has been at it for over three decades, and he admits that the main reason he doesn"t care to guide bass fishermen is they often drive him crazy by constantly switching baits and asking what color he thinks they should try. We agree wholeheartedly: The action of a lure is most important. Some of this is built into a lure, but much of it is controlled by the way the fishermen manipulates the bait and is loosely referred to as presentation. Often the difference between catching a bunch of fish and none is a very small variance in presentation.

Crankbaits At Night?

Norm (Doc) Klayman introduced me to night fishing with worms and jigs and black lights on Bull Shoals Lake back in the 1980s. It is still my favorite way to beguile bass when the rest of the normal world is sleeping, but it isn"t the only way to fish at night. In fact, just about every type of bait used during the day has its night time devotees-except crankbaits. I"m not particularly fond of crankbait fishing in general, but I do love night fishing and experimenting with different baits and techniques, so a few years ago I got to wondering why not crankbaits? Since bass have little trouble spotting a dark worm slithering through the ebony depths at night, surely they can see a crankbait wiggling and bumping about.

Benefits to Hiring a Fishing Guide

Now that you have planned a fishing trip, what do you do after that? Sure you can try to navigate unfamiliar waters, and hope to catch fish in places that you do not know if they even exist, or you can do something better and hire a fishing guide. There are many benefits to hiring a fishing guide. They may be more expensive then trying to do it alone, but the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages. First, and most importantly on a fishing trip, you will catch more fish. Fishing guides are in the waters every single day and know exactly where the best pockets of fish live. They are familiar with the habits of the particular fish species and when the best time to catch them is, and where in the water they tend to swim to during certain parts of the day.

Tips For Choosing A Deep Sea Fishing Charter Boat

Hiring a charter boat for deep sea fishing is a very exciting way to spend your time. To make sure you get the most out of the experience there are some basic elements you want to cover before you hire the charter boat. First you need to decide what type of fish you are after. This will help you identify the best fishing locations offering that particular type of fish. Consider how long you want to hire the deep sea fishing charter boat for. The majority to them charge by the hour, day, or full day. You also need to look at the amenities they offer. For example if you are going to rent their fishing gear and want lunch provided it is going to cost you more than if you provide these items yourself.
