Ferguson v Mourinho

ONE RULE FOR ONE, ONE FOR ANOTHER? JOSE MOURINHO "The circumstances are difficult with the new football rules we have to face. It is forbidden to give a penalty against United and forbidden to give any penalties in favour of Chelsea." SIR ALEX FERGUSON "Mourinho seems to be on some sort of personal crusade. It's calculated. If we get a penalty against us, he wins that war. It is wrong. It is a rant all the time. I don't think it's fair to the game." JOSE MOURINHO "There is no pressure on United. If they play well, they win. If they don't play well, they will get a penalty and still win." SIR ALEX FERGUSON "I would like to know who is changing the regulations?

How to Be an NFL Lineman

I am a retired NFL player and I was a lineman. In this article I am going to explain what you need to do to become a lineman in the NFL. First of all, to be an NFL a lineman you must have heart and passion as this is the most important part of being a NFL lineman. Heart and passion for the game and winning is more important than size and strength. Good looks will not help you but looking mean will help (that"s a joke). The average lineman is 6'0" to 6'8" tall and weighs 290 to 350 lbs and all NFL lineman fall into this range. If you are 5"8" and 165 lbs, being an NFL lineman is not in your genes or your future. I have always felt that linemen are football"s blue collar workers.

How Many Formations Do Successfull Youth Football Teams Really Have?

Many youth football coaches are looking for help in determining the right number of offensive formations for their youth football teams. The optimum number all depends on the age and experience level of your specific team. Many coaches feel the more formations they have, the more complex and difficult it will be for the defense to stop the offense. I"m not sure I buy into that train of thought and at some point there is a diminishing returns point as you spend inordinate amounts of time working on formationing, you confuse the kids and lose practice time elsewhere. Many times in the leagues my teams have played in, the teams with the most formations are the teams with the lowest offensive scoring output.

The Madden Curse, Voodoo or Reality?

It's that dreaded time again. We find out who will become the new face of Madden football. As many of us know, being on the cover of Madden NFL hasn't fared well for some football stars. Prior to 1999, Madden's face graced the cover of Madden. Ok, so let's say we believe in voodoo and look at the facts: Garrison Hearst (1999): Hearst was the first athlete to ever appear on the cover of a Madden game. In 1998, he ran for over 1, 500 yards and scored 7 touchdowns. Hearst went on to suffer a major ankle break against the Atlanta Falcons. He vanished from the game until 2001. Barry Sanders/ Dorsey Levens (2000): Barry Sanders started the season as the front runner of the Madden cover for 2000.

Why the Nasty Split is Nasty in Youth Football

The "Nasty" split is a small adjustment that can help your offense move the ball in games you are struggling with a strong defensive end. I'm not quite sure how the "nasty" split got it's name or who invented it, but my guess is it was a frustrated defensive coordinator somewhere. He probably called this alignment something far more harsh and the term was toned down to the word "Nasty", it puts the defense in a real quandry: The "Nasty" split is nothing more than splitting your tight end out anywhere from 1 feet to 2-3 yards. It forces the defensive end to make a decision, either widen with the tight end to protect against the sweep and an easy down block and take himself away from the off-tackle hole or stay in his regular position, protecting the off-tackle but giving up the sweep.

How to Cut Your Warm Up Times in Half in Youth Football

Need more practice time? Think about areas of your football practice that you can shave time off of. "Static stretching" are traditional stretching movements like toe touchers, windmills, hurdlers stretch etc. For the last 40+ years these type of movements have been used by youth football players to warm and loosen up. Today most experts in the field actually believe these type of movements reduce power output. They suggest players should prepare for football practice or games by doing a "dynamic" warm up that moves from basic, low intensity movements to faster, more explosive movements as the muscles warm and loosen up. They suggest movements that simulate what the players will go through during football practice or games.

More Youth Football Coaching Horror Stories

I"ve gotten a few e-mails recently from frustrated youth football coaches that are struggling in poorly run organizations with inept coaches. Some of these dads just moved into new communities and were shocked to learned they landed in the youth football coaches version of the "Twilight Zone". Maybe that could be part of the multiple listing service realtors offer to their clients. Maybe something like this; "This lovely 4 bedroom 3 bath home features a neighborhood that has a youth football program that has won 10 league titles in the last 12 years and is coached by open minded (about football). Responsible, competent youth football coaches that attend football clinics and have real blocking schemes as part of their offenses".

Need to Improve the Toughness of Your Running Backs in Youth Football?

The Gauntlet drill helps us develop youth running backs. It is a drill that has been around for at least 40 years but is one that still has value in teaching kids today. It is used today at the youth, high school and even college levels. Here is how we do it: Line up 2 rows of players facing each other, just 4 feet apart. A running back is set up so he receives a snap just 2 yards from the opening of the 2 lines. Once the back takes the snap and "seats" the ball, he has to explode through the 2 lines of players running at full speed. The players in the 2 lines job is to slap at the ball, punch it from behind and pull on arms to create a fumble without stopping or impeding the runner.

Run For The Record Books

With an eye toward the Super Bowl, LaDainian Tomlinson leads the San Diego Chargers into the 2007-2008 NFL season. Why you should check out Chargers football, live and in person, can be summed up in two words. Actually, two letters - L.T. Because LaDainian Tomlinson (L.T)-the man who shattered the single-season touchdown record last year with 31 trips to the end zone; the man who led the league in rushing with 1, 815 yards; the man who won the Associated Press MVP Award-is not only back, he"s probably angry. Angry because the Chargers entered the 2006-07 playoffs as the odds-on team to beat. Angry that the dream would not become reality, as the New England Patriots earned a come-from-behind victory January 14, 2007, to end the San Diego Chargers" playoff run all too early.

Single Best Tip For Improving Youth Offensive Line Productivity in Youth Football

You have to overwhelm your opponent at the point of attack. Why Overwhelming at the Point of Attack is Crucial: Youth football can in many ways be reduced to a numbers game. If you have more numbers than your opposition at the point of attack, you have a decent chance at success. Now if you have the best talent and size in your league year in and year out, numbers really won"t matter, but what happens when you run into a team that is your equal or better? How do you get more numbers at the point of attack? Double Team Blocks Pulling Offensive Linemen Do not waste players Leave non threatening players unblocked Formations advantages Most of these suggestions are self explanatory with the exception of "Don"t waste players.
