Turning Around a Perrenial Loser in Youth Football
I often see High School football coaches that are taking over teams new to them, saying on these various football forums; "My handprint on the program won"t be felt for 5 years". Those are the words of a football coach that has very little confidence in his coaching abilities and someone that sounds like they really covet thier head coaching job. Turnarounds do not take that long, they can be immediate. Don Markham, one of the all-time great High School Coaches coached football at 8 different High Schools and compiled a 303-105-1 record. He won early and often every place he coached at and he coached at places no one had won at previously. Running an offense very similar to mine (we borrowed a lot of ideas and methods from him), Coach Markham runs just a handful of football plays;
What Is Going On With All Of The High Priced Football Athletes!
It seems that every time you turn on your tv their is some high priced NFL athlete getting in trouble with the law. I noticed that a lot of the guys that are coming into the league are getting younger and younger. Most of the players that are coming into the league have never really grew up with a lot of positive role models in their life. I think this does have a lot to do with all the problem that the league is having now. I think teams in the NFL need to have more veterans on the team to help the younger guys with their transition to the league. If you give the average guy a fat million dollar contact and no mentor or leader around him he is bound to fail.
The Miami Dolphin s 2007 Schedule - Who s on Their Play List
Every year, Miami Dolphins fans find themselves swimming in wonderment, questioning whether their team will be good, bad, or just plain ugly. While the NFL is filled with teams that need little speculation - teams that are routinely playoff bound or teams that are a shoe in for a good draft pick - Miami isn't one of them. Perpetually hovering around the. 500 mark, with a few good seasons and bad seasons peppered in, the Dolphins are a team that can go either way: towards a winning season or into the dark cracks of failure. This year, however, could be different. As Dante Culpepper's career takes a metaphorical and literal knee, Trent Green looks to be the new starting quarterback, one who can hopefully "fin"ish the season with more wins than losses.
How Mark Cuban Can Be Successful With The UFL
Leave it to Mark Cuban to take on the mighty NFL. I, for one, am all for it. I love football. I willingly give up one full day each week to watch the pros. I even register in online chat rooms to discuss ways to improve the NFL and to make this proposed new league successful. Further, if I had the means, I would gladly join Mr. Cuban in this endeavor he looks to pursue. But, a word of caution, from my perspective as the customer, about the direction of this league. Mr. Cuban had stated that demand for football exceeds supply, creating this market he envisions. But, the true demand of which he speaks is for NFL quality football. If fans wanted lesser quality football, there is NCAA, high school, and Pee Wee or Pop Warner.
Game Day for High School Football Players
To enhance performance and increase endurance effectively, each young athlete and their parents should make proper nutrition, on and off the field, a high priority. Proper nutrition takes planning and preparation and begins at home. Proper nutrition will not only help build strong bodies, but also strong minds. And it will set each young athlete on the road to a healthy adulthood. Game day nutrition is especially important because the proper nutrients will help regulate blood sugar and keep energy levels up. Whey protein will help build lean muscle and assist in recovery. Staying hydrated will also help with recovery from exertion. 1-2 hours prior to workout, conditioning, practice or event: Prepare for exercise by hydrating your body and consuming a small amount of carbs to provide adequate fuel during exercise and prevent fatigue while still allowing the stomach to be relatively empty at start of competition/workout, preventing GI distress and discomfort during exercise.
Dandy Don Meredith - A Great Dallas Cowboys Quarterback
The Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League are a fan favorite franchise. They have been a success on the field, playing at a consistently high level, since joining the league as an expansion team in 1960. In addition to their great success on the field, "America"s Team" has been just as successful off the field and is considered to be one of the most valuable sports teams in North America. At the heart of the Cowboys great success on the field are the individuals who have contributed to the play. Endless players have donned the single star and blue and white jerseys of the Dallas Cowboys and taken to the field at Texas Stadium. Through its franchise history, the Dallas Cowboys have had a number of all-stars whose skills and achievements have contributed to Dallas Cowboys history.
The Optimum Team Size in Youth Football
Team Sizes in Youth Football There is an optimum size for a youth football team. If your team has too few players, a key injury or grade problem can seriously affect your teams ability to compete or even have a productive football practice. Too many players and it becomes very difficult to offer the proper coaching attention and even get the kids reasonable amounts of playing time. There are some youth football coaches that believe "the more the merrier" when it comes to player numbers. I think many of these coaches think the more players they have the better chance that they will have that some superstar among that number will emerge to carry the team. There is a local team that carried 40-60 players on its squad and still lost most of its games, poor coaching often won"t even overcome huge talent pools.
Should Youth Football Teams Run the High School Offense? Heck No
High Schools that Want You to Run "Their System" at the Youth Level. A small number of Youth Football coaches get pressure from the local High School to run the High Schools offense. The High School coach in these situations often think that by teaching 8 year old kids to run his system, by the time the players are 18 years old, they should be very proficient at running said system. I am 100% opposed to the High School coach imposing his will on the Youth Program. For many reasons I am 100% opposed to the High Schools imposing this will upon the youth coach and kids. My first reason has to do with basic control and effort. The often handsomely paid for his time, High School coach is telling a non-paid volunteer of a program not run or paid for by the High School, to run his High School system.
Crab Blocking - The Ultimate Equalizer in Youth Football
Crab Blocking is a must for offensive linemen in Youth Football. It is something we teach all of our offensive linemen to do and do very well, we take great pride in it. We use it to fill in the gaps of pulling linemen, as well as a tactic against dominating defensive linemen. This block allows even the smallest and weakest of your offensive linemen to neuteralize even the best defender in youth football. Crab blocking also goes by the word, scramble block and is cousin to the cut or shoeshine block. Unlike the cut or shoeshine block, the crab block for us is just meant as a neuteralizer, we are not aiming to take the defender to the ground. It starts with a parallel charge to the line of scrimmage by the offensive linemen, with him tossing his outside arm across his body to the inside, both hands on the ground and butt in the air.
More Reasons Why Youth Football Teams Should Never Run the High School System
More Stats for NOT Running the High School Offense in Youth Football: Here are a few stats for you youth football coaches feeling the pressure to run the local High School offense: Let"s say you have a team size of 25 kids. National studies from Michigan State University and the National Youth Sports Alliance say less than 30% of your players will play High School football. So now, out of 25 kids you have 7 players that according to the studies go on to play High School ball. Of those 7, not all will play at the local Public High School, they may move, play for a different local High School, or they may play for a Private School, let"s say you lose 1 player there.
