Growing up in the country that soccer is a dominated sport, I can say that soccer is a part of my life. I can not even remember the first time I play soccer, because I was way too young. But one thing that I knew since I was young, I enjoy playing it as well as watching the game on TV, both national team and teams from European leagues. When you watch the game, especially when the team that you love play against the rival team. The mixed feeling during the game cannot express in words. To play soccer, it"s not only requires a player"s skill, but also tactics from player and manager as well.

A tired soccer team for Iraq cannot be accused of having high hopes to win against Saudi Arabia. Their Cinderella trip to the Asian Cup"s finale has captured the vision of soccer fans around the world and has given Iraquis things they have been lacking for a long time such as national pride and unity. Following the Ancient Greeks when they used to put a hold on war while the Olympics where played, the Iraqis have a ray of hope that the violence may be halted while the Asian Cup matches are played.

Ok, you know all about the passion for soccer in Brazil from Ronaldinho's promo ads, but what about Argentina soccer? Why is it that a country that suffers and lives for soccer equally as the Brazilians don't get their fair share of spotlight time? Admittedly, one of the reasons is its smaller trophy room in comparison to Brazil's (2 titles in 4 finals for Argentina, 5 titles in 7 finals for Brazil) but still... In order to do it justice, I decided to accustom you to football in Argentina. Argentina soccer was organized in amateur or semi-professional local championships at the dawn of the 20th century and despite the fact that Argentina's national soccer team played its first match in 1901, don't think it was the same type of national team you would have today.

Can Manchester United repeat their success this year after their unexpected win last time? Many people think they can and they start favourites. They have boosted their squad by signing Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich plus Nani and Anderson and have now picked up Carlos Tevez as well from West Ham. They have looked good in pre-season and will be there or thereabouts. Their biggest challenger will probably again be Chelsea, though Liverpool Arsenal and Spurs will all have a say in that. Chelsea would dearly love to recover the title they lost last season, but then again they seem more interested in the Champions league.

After winning the Lancashire League in the first year of existence, Liverpool FC was elected to the Football League Second Division for the 1893-1894 season. As was the case with the previous season, Liverpool FC was extremely successful in their second season as well, and won the Second Division by a good margin, suffering no defeats in the process. As a result they were promoted to the the highest level of English football at the time - the first division! As you would expect, Liverpool FC didn't just go on to win the league in their first season, but started a building up period with the aim to win the league, as well as the domestic cup competition.

The English football league was formed in 1888, and on September 8th, Anfield laid turf to the first football league game in its history. The home team wasn't dressed in red, as would be the case now-a-days. They wore the blue and white strip of Everton FC. This marked the beginning of what was to become a great name in world football - Anfield. The man behind Everton FC, and the owner of the Anfield ground was John Houlding, a local brewer and pub owner, member of the local council, and later the Mayor of the city of Liverpool.

The mobile phone has been heralded as a great invention, but I automatically frown upon any tool that encourages spousal interaction. I remember my feeling of angst as my circle of friend embraced the technological breakthrough. Even my old man joined in, and he"s a complete technophobe; he once sold his television because a little fellow in the corner of the screen was making hand signals towards him. The wife shares my disdain for this evil apparatus. I really felt for her when she realised her fingers were too chunky for the keypad: she wasn"t too upset though, she has the same problem with the landline.

The big kick-off is upon us again and those experts in the know from the world of TV and press have been busy telling us how it all ends, even before it has begun! As usual fixed odds in focus have joined in via their e-zine service Tipped at the Post.
