Why Is Serena Williams So Ugly?
Now, don't get me wrong, although the tennis player Serena Williams does nothing for me personally, I'm not calling her ugly in a physical sense - mind you when her fancily designed dress got caught in the wind at Wimbledon, she had to tuck into her shorts, *that* wasn't a good look! No, here's what I mean when I call her ugly... Serena and her older sister Venus are great stories of goal achievement. Their dad decided they would both win Wimbledon, and set about learning how to coach the game, then set about coaching them. Their style of play led to a huge shift in the way women's tennis is played, and combined with their habit of reading motivational notes between games, they became as famous as they were successful, with both of them indeed ending up as Wimbledon Champs.
Tennis-US Open in New York City
The fuzzy yellow ball flew over the net in a blur, leaving a trail of vapor behind it. The player reacts and tries to get his racquet on it before it"s past him. He hopes to return it deep in bounds onto the other side of the net. As he changes direction in anticipation for the next shot, the ball is pounded into the opposite corner leaving him no chance to return it. Play is briefly stopped as the roar of a jet engines dissipate from a plane recently taking off from LaGuardia Airport. The dark clouds move in and the umpire is ready to stop play. It"s a hot rainy August at the US Open. While working with the media I get to see most of the matches. If you manage to get a ticket you won"t be disappointed, but be prepared to bring your credit card.
Novak Djokovic The Future Star Starts To Glimmer!
The second hard fought final of the year and Roger Federer this time succumbed at the Canadian Open to an inspired Djokovic. The irony of the match is that Roger the final "king", the best big points player and tiebreaker leader was beaten in all departments. Does this mean anything for the US Open 2007? Nothing, zero, nada! Roger can come out of this defeat however painful and dismantle Novak on a 5 set match at the US Open. Will he? Hard to tell, but one thing I am sure, the young wolfs, Novak Djokovic, David Murray, Richard Gasquet and Marcus Bagdahtis are no longer just showing their teeth at the pack leader, but inflicting rather serious wounds on him and little by little undermining his supremacy.
How Can I Get Better at Tennis Without Just Working on Strokes?
I recently received an email from a 4.5 tennis player in the USA who proposed the following question: I could use some help with a plan to get better. I am a 4.5 rated player in the USA and would like to be a 5.5. For some reason, I can't find a tennis coach that will help with an overall plan; they just want to work on strokes. Any ideas? After coaching tennis at a big country club in Texas for over five years I often faced the same question from our tournament players who felt as if they had plateaued and that by just getting out on the court and working on their strokes was just not taking them to the next level. As a tennis coach you need to be flexible and be able to analyze each player and create a plan for their own specific and individual needs.
Developing a BIG Forehand for Tennis Players!
When you watch young tennis players in tournaments in the U/10, U/12 and U/14 age groups you will find that it is often the more consistent players who do well. At this age the athletes are still physically developing and the male players are just entering a growth stage where they will start to increase on their strength and power quite significantly. As the player enters their mid-teens you will find that those players who dominated during their younger years due to their consistency start to have a tougher time. As they transition into the higher age groups they will also need to develop bigger shots, in particular the serve and forehand. These players find that they can no longer just hit the ball over the net waiting for their opponent's error.
Tennis Lessons for Beginners - Concentration and Equipment
Your concentration can be maintained by focusing on each single shot individually. Do not focus too much on missed opportunities and acknowledge good shots by your opponent (even if only in your mind! ). Break the whole game down into little bits: concentrate on winning a shot, a game, a set, and ultimately the match. It is no use focusing all of your energy on making it big in tennis and all you can think about on the court is the nice restaurant you are going to afterwards, or even the screams from the avid spectators (hopefully for your superb tennis display! ). When buying tennis equipment, do not try to be too stingy. Get a decent tennis racquet, tennis shoes, and of course proper tennis balls.
Federer - Is He The Best?
This question echoes in the world of tennis. A large number of people believe that no player has been so talented in the history of tennis. However, there is a huge crowd that believes that the players in the 80s or 90s were the best, and Federer cannot be compared with them. Well, this has become a topic of debate now-a-days. There is no doubt that Federer is full of incredible talent that is rarely seen. We need not argue on this point as his records and achievements speak it. He has all the shots. He is best at baseline, great serve, and net game. His defense is exceptional, and incredible. His flare to win, and the way he plays is just amazing. These lines are not a part of this article.
Tennis - Performance Drugs? Or No Performance Drugs!
In recent years the World of Cycling has been turned upside down by doping cases involving all kinds of top stars, "Le tour de France" leaders and recent winners tainted with the doping question. This got me thinking about our little world of tennis and in all fairness these questions popped up in my mind, what if: - Police raids, like those in cycling in Italy, France, Spain or Belgium, were made at all major tournaments' Australian Open, Miami Open, Italian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open at the tennis player"s guest houses and hotels? What would the Police find? Nothing? - Independent labs examined the blood and urine samples presented by the players rather then labs controlled either by the ATP or ITF?
Tennis Lessons For Beginners - Learning From Professionals
You can, however, improve your overall game of tennis by watching the professionals play. See all the professional tennis you possibly can: go to live games, watch them on television and even online. Study the play of leading tennis players closely and strive to copy their strokes in your own game. Get hold of quality tennis instruction books and apply them to minimize your own limitations. You can learn much more about tennis off the court, by watching the professionals in action and studying the theory behind shot execution and body positioning. Combine this with playing as much as you possibly can to implement what you have learned. Do not give up easily if you cannot integrate your new-found knowledge immediately into your style of play;
Tennis Lessons for Beginners - Grip and Body Position
To obtain a suitable forehand grip, hold the tennis racquet's handle towards your body, with the edge of the racquet face perpendicular towards the ground. Almost like shaking hands with a friend, allow the handle to settle comfortably into your hand, making the line of your arm, the racquet and your hand as one. Do not hold the racquet handle loosely, a firm grip (but not a holding on for dear life type grip! ) will spare your wrist unnecessary ache and swelling, not to mention points won! To achieve the backhand grip, turn your hand upwards on the handle for a quarter circle, thereby pointing your knuckles directly up. It is normal for your backhand to have less control and power than your forehand, but try to minimize this at all costs.
